4.3. Fuel filter integrity
4.3.1. All fuel filters shall be designed and manufactured to contain fuel without leakage. This shall be demonstrated by testing in accordance with the leak test procedure in 5.1.2.
4.3.2. Every fuel filter design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the impact test procedure in 5.3.2.
Exemptions: Fuel filters that are protected from impact, such that during normal operation there is not a direct line of impact with the test ball, and that any means of protection does not contact the fuel filter when also tested in accordance with the impact test procedure in 5.3.2 may be exempted from impact testing.
4.3.3. Every fuel filter design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the fuel resistance test procedure in 5.6.
4.3.4. Every fuel filter design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the UV resistance test procedure in 5.8.
Exemptions: Fuel filters that are protected from UV exposure, where no part of the fuel filter can be exposed to direct sunlight during normal operation may be exempted from UV resistance testing.
4.4. Fuel system elastomeric component integrity
4.4.1. Every representative fuel tank assembly design incorporating elastomeric components, including grommets and seals, excluding fuel lines, shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the elevated temperature fuel soak test procedure in 5.4.
Exemptions: Fuel tank assemblies where the fuel cap is the only seal may be exempted from elevated temperature fuel soak testing unless they utilize PE fuel tanks, in which case testing is still required by section 4.1.4.
4.4.2. All fuel system elastomeric component designs, including grommets and seals, excluding fuel lines, shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the fuel resistance test procedure in 5.6.
Exemptions: Fluoroelastomers (FKM”) fuel system components may be exempted from fuel resistance testing.
4.4.3. All fuel system elastomeric component designs, including grommets and seals, excluding fuel lines, shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the ozone resistance test procedure in 5.7.
Exemptions: FKM fuel system components may be exempted from ozone resistance testing.
4.5. Fuel shut-off valve integrity
4.5.1. All fuel shut-off valves shall be designed and manufactured not to leak. This shall be demonstrated by testing in accordance with the leak test procedure in 5.1.2.
4.5.2. Every fuel shut-off valve design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the impact test procedure in 5.3.2.
Exemptions: Fuel shut-off valves that are protected from impact, such that during normal operation there is not a direct line of impact with the test ball, and that any means of protection does not contact the shut-off valve when also tested in accordance with the impact test procedure in 5.3.2 may be exempted from impact testing.
4.5.3. Every fuel shut-off valve design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the fuel resistance test procedure in 5.6.
Exemptions: Metal fuel shut-off valves that do not include elastomeric or plastic components may be exempted from fuel resistance testing.
4.5.4. Every fuel shut-off valve design shall be qualified one-time in accordance with the UV resistance test in 5.8.
Exemptions: Metal fuel shut-off valves and fuel shut-off valves that are protected from UV exposure, where no part of the shut-off valve can be exposed to direct sunlight during normal operation may be exempted from UV resistance testing.ANSI B71.10 pdf download.
